Top Hand Scramble Foundation, Inc. is a Texas non-profit corporation, formed in 2018. It is classified as a 501(c)3 charitable organization by the IRS and you can view additional information about its charitable status at both Guidestar and Charity Navigator.
In early 2018, a group of friends got together and asked what they could do to make a positive impact in their community. They felt that one great embodiment of the American dream is represented in the calf scrambles that occur in the rodeos and fairs across the country. These events provide youth the opportunity to compete to win a calf, which they then raise and show at subsequent events. Calf scrambles provide meaningful work, a sense of purpose and educational scholarships for thousands of youth across the nation each year. As a result, the Top Hand Scramble Foundation was born and to support calf scrambles and other youth livestock programs and provide opportunities for deserving youth.

All calf scrambles and youth livestock programs need donors to provide help provide livestock for the youth. The Top Hand Scramble Foundation exists to help provide as many calves and other livestock each year as it can, to help kids and promote the support and continuation of agriculture in our communities.

In every calf scramble, there are more kids than there are calves, so some kids are unable to catch a calf. But, in recognition of exceptional effort, some competitors who do not catch a calf, are awarded a calf on a hard-luck basis. Because we feel that the hard-luck cases are the epitome of what makes America exceptional, we sponsor the hard-luck calves as our first priority. If we are fortunate enough to have additional funds, we will sponsor as many calves or other livestock as our funding allows.

The Top Hand Scramble Foundation is run entirely by volunteers. As such, we have very little overhead. Our goal is to donate as much of every dollar received as possible to deserving kids. In 2018, we donated 100 cents of every dollar received to purchasing calves.

We hope you’ll join us and help us provide more opportunities for more kids each year.
